herbert pollack:
you guys have to be having so much fun
Wemby/Castle/Harper…what a good young trio
ElijahB:
It’s such a blast! This is what we’ve been waiting for!!
BlueCheezus:
Woohoo the game thread was something. I understand the Harper love, but the Castle negativity was maddening. Can we just enjoy their respective strengths?
And all that for Steph to have 21/6/8 on +9, second on the team to (you’ll never guess) Champs at +24! .
Watching Steph in year 2 has been great fun, and honestly he’s still playing much better than I could have imagined at the start of last year.
Do I think Harper has a higher ceiling? Yes, yes I do. He oozes talent and it-factor. But I REALLY like him with the second unit as a franchise that got used to Ginóbili being a star ‘starter’ coming off the bench. Either way, I am going to enjoy both, and take the bumps as they come with young players. The Spurs are winning, and I haven’t been able to say that for quite a while now.
weerogue:
When I read the box score, I expected to come on here and see Castle in the headlines as one of the main reasons we won.
He was easily our most efficient volume scorer last night (he scored 6pts fewer than Wemby on 12 fewer shots).
6 RBS, 8 AST, 4 STL, 1 BLK and only 2 TOVs?!
I’m assuming this turnover number must be undercounted for there to be any negativity about him whatsoever.
He even got 1 offensive board, so for the primary ball handler he lost 1 net possession, and gave us all that efficient scoring, assists and great defense.
Guy had a huge night…what am I missing?
2yrTimeline:
Man, that line by Castle tonight was pretty pathetic. I can’t believe this PG wannabe took FIVE whole games to get an 8 assist, 4 to 1 — A/TO game under his belt in the Spurs 5-0 start to the season (a record start, btw) with at least 3 key rotation players out. And this 20 year old punk also had the audacity to shoot at least 50% from the floor and from the 3-Point line, canning 70+% of his free throw attempts (a close 2nd to Wemby in attempts for the season), and had 4 steals and a block.
This kid even thought it was his job to hit a big 3 and make a key defensive play in the closing minutes. Oh, and did I say, he scored 21 points on just 11 FG attempts (1.9 ppfg attempt). You know, come to think of it, if I didn’t know better, I’d say this kid’s just out for the attention. He’s chasing the stat sheet. So I gotta ask one last question for coach Mitch: after all his turnovers and missed free throws, etc. during the preceding 4 games, why the hell did you stick with this guy?? After all, you had this wonder boy, Dylan, waiting in the wings. Why not just switch the two kids early on? Why’d you have to put us fans through such angst during those 1st four games?

Sarcasm font is available.

Yeah, I’m stuck at work. On an iPad mini, and after posting, tried several times to try to get the sarcasm font option to work but failed miserably and got edit-timed-out. Accept my apologies.
On a positive note, many of the regulars are going to easily tell that this is big-time sarcasm coming from me.
sdowns1470:
This was a real test. I’m glad we pulled it off. I got scared there for a minute. Victor didn’t have a great game. This was his worst of the season to date.
Dylan came in and we settled down. Dylan’s effect can’t be denied. He’s only 19 but plays so much older. It’s hard to believe he’s still a teenager. Most teenagers would fold in that situation.
Castle was much better tonight. He had only 3 turnovers. I knew it’d come together eventually. He had 21/6/8 /4 steals tonight. Victor had 27/18/6/5 blocks.
We have our core for the future. Victor/Castle/Harper. That will take us places for years to come. Area 51 tightened up the defense late. Dylan’s a decent defender too.
I am ready to see more of this team. It’s going to be so much fun this season. 5-0 for the first time ever. I can’t wait to see Victor, Castle and Dylan grow together for years to come.
Tropicaldaze:
Victor didn’t have a great game.
Can we really say that though? I realize he only hit one of his five three-pointers, but other than that he clicked on his two-pointers at a 50% rate, which isn’t bad considering that he was getting “mugged” in the paint by Miami’s very large, very tough front line. Overall, with a stat line of 27 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists (to only three turnovers), along with five blocks and a steal, I think that’s a game he can feel pretty proud of. In fact Victor, in his 40 minutes of play, either equaled or exceeded the combined production of both Bam and Ware in almost every statistic – and they played a combined 58 minutes.
Floyd Kizzie Jr.:
The game had the physical play and the intensity of a playoff game. Also had the peaks and valleys of a playoff game. Symbolically it had the stakes of a playoff game. (You could hear the naysayers gathering to call us frauds, if we had lost).
May be strange to say..but this was one of the biggest wins of the Wemby era.
Newmexican:
League’s best offense against the best defense. Defense wins basketball games. It was a Spursy win for sure. Great win guys!
Floyd Kizzie Jr.:
Big time.
#8 in the Rafters:
In the 4th qtr when the Heat were on their torrid 17-1 run, Devin and Steph and Harrison each had a MASSIVE 3-ball that REALLY helped us finish them off. And the DEFENSE! We just shut the Heat down the last 4 minutes, it was really something to behold.
Floyd Kizzie Jr.:
It sure was ma. That play by Steph on the Heat 2 on1 was..WOW.
doggydogworld:
Victor also had his only made 3 in between Dev’s and HB’s 3s.
ItCouldHappen:
The pace of the Heat was relentless to begin the game. Is Erik Spoelstra turning into Mike D’Antoni? Bam Adebayo taking catch and shoot threes is a new dimension to his game
Spoelstra is a better coach than D’Antoni because he can use a D’Antoni scheme to fit his personnel, rather than trying to fit his team into a D’Antoni scheme
ElijahB:
5-0 for first time on our history!!
Veggiedelite:
Trying to stay in the now it’s great to see the team winning and dealing with adversity and staying together and winning. Idk how the rest of the year will go but it’s very encouraging to see them win games like this where they don’t play particularly well they just keep pounding the rock, giving good effort on defense, and not getting down on anyone. That sort of mentality will take you far in the game of basketball.
Djziggyzeke:
Great win, hard fought, but good god please come back Kornet. 40 min is too much for wemby especially when he’s getting cracked hard every time he drives. Lotta short misses in the 4th cuz he wasn’t getting enough rest cus the team couldn’t survive the Biyombo minutes.
Mikefitz331:
Harrison Barnes appreciation comment. We don’t win the game if he doesn’t come up with two big buckets in the 4th quarter against Spoelstra’s zone.
Genius change by Spo as SAS was completely lost for roughly 7 minutes of game time. Embarrassing that we have a 7’4” guy standing in the corner against that zone versus him catching in the middle and attacking. Luckily HB did that for at least one big lay-up to stem MIA’s momentum, then hit a monster 3 from the corner.
Mitch better coach these guys up as I’ll bet we see that more often this year.
Floyd Kizzie Jr.:
Knit picking time already.?
.My POV: That set up is designed for Wemby to crash in from the corner, so he is not doubled and bodied in the paint. He had missed 3 straight shots from the middle of that zone. Mitch did an outstanding job tonight. Especially being short handed.
Nicedoggie:
Counting the preseason, the spurs have won NINE games in a row and have not lost a game since last Spring. This is truly an alternate universe in which we are living…..and I like it here.
SteelersnSpursfan:
This. Is. What. I. Am. Talking. About.
Our guards are only going to feast on their guards and it showed in this game. Ware bave minimal impact in this game. Bam and Wiggins, they are secretly really good, along with Powell and Herro they have some chance here but, look! No Fox, Sochan, or Olynyk! Heat squad was no slouch, this game was the hardest the Spurs had to play, evidently as Carter Bryant didn’t play (that does imply once our players return, he’ll spend more time in G-league, which is fine).
I always love watching the Spurs play the Suns; smacking the owner’s mouth (I know that owner isn’t around anymore, but it stuck with the Suns for me, it’s personal). Let’s get them, get going- get Thunder sweat. Make Chet sweat so much that the sweat gets bigger than them legs!
TOOTBLANner:
Great win. Love how the team is responding to the inevitable runs by the opponent. 5-0 baby, GSG!!!
Nasty spurs ph:
6-0 here we come

You may be banned for calling games
Mark Barrington:
Correction: The Thunder won tonight, so Spurs are in second place in the West. Just setting up that battle of the unbeatens on December 23.

I know we have a relatively weak schedule, but winning 5 in a roll feels like
